johnny tremain

1. "Johnny Tremain" (1957) - Robert Stevenson directed this Disney adaptation of Esther Forbes' award winning 1944 novel about the misadventures of a young Boston apprentices during the years leading to the outbreak of the American Revolution.

2. "1776" (1972) - William Daniels and Howard Da Silva starred in this adaptation of the 1969 stage musical about the creation and signing of the Declaration of Independence. Peter H. Hunt directed.



sweet liberty

3. "Sweet Liberty" (1986) - Alan Alda wrote and directed this comedy about a history professor witnessing the Hollywood adaptation of his book on the American Revolution. Bob Hoskins, Michelle Pfieffer and Michael Caine co-starred.



april morning

4. "April Morning" (1988) - Tommy Lee Jones, Robert Urich and Chad Lowe starred in this "Hallmark Hall of Fame" adaptation of Howard Fast's novel about the first battle of the American Revolution.



independence day

5. "Independence Day" (1996) - Roland Emmerich directed this summer epic about a group of Americans dealing with an alien invasion force during the Fourth of July weekend. Jeff Goldblum, Will Smith and Bill Pullman starred.

8. "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" (2000) - Joel and Ethan Cohen wrote and directed this take on Homer's "The Odyssey" about three prison escapees who set out in Depression-era Mississippi to find stolen gold. Golden Globe winner George Clooney, John Tuturro, Tim Blake Nelson and John Goodman starred.



national treasure

9. "National Treasure" (2004) - A historian and treasure hunter uses the Declaration of Independence to search for a mythical treasure, hidden by the Founding Fathers. Directed by Jon Turteltaub, Nicholas Cage starred.



live free or die hard

10. "Live Free or Die Hard" (2007) - Bruce Willis returned in this fourth Die Hard movie about John McClane's efforts to protect a computer hacker from cyber terrorists out to steal from the U.S. government. Directed Len Wiseman and co-starring Justin Long, Maggie Q, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Timothy Olyphant.
